Course Duration06 Months (Compulsory Residential).
Eligibility- Pass in 10th Standard with minimum 40% marks from a recognized Board with English as one of the subject. Entrant must have at least 40% marks in English in 10th Standard.
OR
For Diploma or Degree holders- Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard & 40 % Marks in English.
- The candidate must have passed the 10th standard from a recognized Board.
- The Diploma or degree must be recognized by any State or Central Government or the AICTE.
Between 17.5 years to 27 years before entry in training
Physical StandardsAs per M. S. Medical Examination of Seafarers Rules, 2000 as amended from time to time. Candidates will have to submit a medical fitness certificate from a DG Shipping approved doctor.
Career Prospect- A Saloon Rating after successful completion of pre-sea course joins vessel as General Steward or Trainee/2nd Cook and subsequently become Chief Cook/Chief Steward who is the in-charge of Catering Department.
- Chief cook takes care of Ship’s food preparation, provision stores, general hygiene and housekeeping. The Chief Cook is usually one of the most pampered and loved person on board.
- Pre-sea Saloon Rating course will cover common syllabi for the Ratings like, English (Nautical Terms), Etiquette, Mathematics, Physics, Health Hazards & Personal safety, Ships & Shipping Industries.
- Use of Life Saving & Fire Fighting Appliances, Safe Working Practices, First Aid, Navigation, Ship’s Maintenance, Signaling & Ship Visit.
- They also undertake exclusive training programme in subjects like Food Production, Housekeeping, Hygiene & Front Desk Service.
